Case Study Three

Keeping IP in the SPOTLIGHT® with Tomkins

"They have guided us every step of the way, advised the best strategy for each product, and provided us with a well thought out implementation plan.”

The Project

First created in 2016 Spotlight Oral Care has always aimed to create the best, most innovative oral health products, as well as to educate and promote oral care, empowering people to engage with customised preventative oral care. Co-founders, sisters, and dentists, Dr. Lisa and Dr. Vanessa Creaven have a unique insight into the needs and wants of patients and have specifically designed a range of bespoke products which not only combine the latest advances in oral care research and the highest quality of ingredients but also address a serious sustainability issue in the industry, with billions of toothpaste tubes sitting in landfill each year. Spotlight Oral Care’s toothpaste tubes are made from sugar cane making them the world’s first ever 100% recyclable tube which completely revolutionises the oral care industry.

Spotlight Oral Care has always distinguished its products from others, created customer loyalty and minimised the risk of others copying their designs by carefully protecting and managing its intellectual property worldwide, with Tomkins help. “Without a doubt”, they say, such IP protection “has increased our market value and made it possible to attract investment.”

With such innovation and unique perspective on the oral care industry, Intellectual Property is very important to Spotlight Oral Care, which notes that

“As a young, growing company in a very competitive industry, it is key to our long-term success that we establish a strong presence in the marketplace by protecting our IP”.

Enjoying a close and friendly relationship with Tomkins, Spotlight says we

“have been an undeniably excellent resource for us in protecting and managing our IP. They have guided us every step of the way, advised the best strategy for each product, and provided us with a well thought out implementation plan.”
